Don’t be Slothful, Be Diligent

Proverbs 24:30-34

I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of someone who has no sense; thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins. I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw: A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest— and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

We need to stay diligent in our work, a little slacking off causes poverty to sneak up on you.

Proverbs 14:23

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

We want to stay busy working, because all hard work brings a profit.  On the other hand, just talking about the things we might do leads to poverty.

Proverbs 18:9

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

When we’re slothful, we waste a lot of time.

Proverbs 15:19

The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

Being slothful makes life hard, like walking through a hedge of thorns.

Proverbs 19:15

Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

When you are lazy, it makes you lethargic.  On the other hand, working diligently gives you energy.  Brian Tracy, a famous business coach, said “The faster you move, the more energy you will have. The faster you move, the more you will get done, and the better you will feel. The faster you move, the more in control of your life you will feel.”

Proverbs 12:24

The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.

Diligent people will have control over their lives.

Proverbs 13:4

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

If we are diligent, we will have abundance.
