Romans 9:30-10:13
What shall we say then? The Gentiles, who did not pursue justness, attained justness, even the justness that is from believing. However, Israel, who pursued a law of justice, did not reach to the law. Why? Because they pursued it not from believing but as from works. They stumbled at the stone of the stumbling obstacle even as it has been written: (Isaiah 28:16; 8:14): “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a stumbling obstacle and a rock for a stumbling block, and he who believes on him will not be put to shame [by disappointed expectations].” Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer request to God on their behalf is for salvation, for I bear witness to them that they have a zeal for God but not according to knowledge [acknowledgment]. In fact, being ignorant of God’s justness and seeking to establish their own, they have not submitted to the justness of God. Moreover, Christ is the end of the law for justness to everyone who believes. In fact, Moses writes regarding the justness of the law that (Leviticus 18:5): “the man who does those things will [is to] live by them.” However, the justness from believing says thus: “Do not say in your heart, Who will ascend into heaven?” (that is, to bring Christ down) or “Who will descend into the abyss?” (that is, to bring up Christ from the dead), but what does it [the justness from believing] say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of the [right way of] believing, which we herald, that if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and will believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved, for with the heart it is believed unto justness and with the mouth it is confessed unto salvation. Hence, the Scripture says, (Isaiah 28:16): “Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame [by disappointed expectations].” There is no difference between Judean and Greek, for it is the same lord of all who is rich to all who call on him. In fact, everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved.
