God’s Love for Sinners

Romans 3:9-18

What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.  Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Romans 3 vividly describes the sinful nature of man, a condition all people are born into because of Adam’s sin.  And yet God wanted to save us when we were in that condition.  This helps us to understand the greatness of God’s love.

Romans 5:6-8

Furthermore, when we were yet weak, Christ died for the ungodly at the appropriate time.  Scarcely on behalf of a just person would anyone die. In fact, perhaps on behalf of the good person someone might even dare to die.  However, God shows His love to us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died on our behalf.

Ezekiel 33:11a

Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live.
